Tracey Elphick

Although Tracey Elphick lives and works in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, she has strong links to Scilly as she has family on the tiny island of St Agnes and often visits the islands.

After studying Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art, specialising in Painting, she qualified as a teacher and became Head of Art at Kingshill School in Cirencester. She went on to pursue a career as a full-time artist and has progressed her mixed media paintings over time.

Tracey often uses collages of local newspaper cuttings mixed with acrylic paint and ink and more recently she has been refining her use of acrylics. Whether painting wildlife, still life or landscapes, all Tracey’s work has a loose style and her passion for colour, layers of media and spontaneous mark making is clear in all of her work. An experimental approach is intrinsic to her work. Spraying, splashing, sponging and sgraffito are some of the processes she often uses, all of which are ideally suited to the dramatic and ever-changing landscape of Scilly.
