Welcome to Tamarisk Gallery
Tamarisk Gallery is located in the Isles of Scilly, an area which draws artists from far and wide due to its unique light and the inspiration which comes from its unparalleled natural beauty. The gallery itself is based in the centre of bustling Hugh Town on St Mary’s and showcases the very of best local art.
Many artists and craftspeople who feature in our gallery live locally but we also exhibit works by artists from Cornwall and further afield who have a connection to the islands or have been inspired by their visits to the archipelago. Artwork predominantly centres around Scilly’s changing seascape, an endless source of inspiration.
We are now open to the public but we would ask that customers please use the hand sanitiser at the door and wear a mask at all times.
If the gallery has several people viewing, you may also be politely asked to wait outside until it is possible for customers to stay two metres apart.
We are located in the centre of Hugh Town, the bustling hub of St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly. You can find us on the corner between the Galley chip shop and the Foredeck.
We are presently open
Monday - Saturday 10am -1pm
Monday. Wednesday, Friday afternoons 2 - 5pm
and welcome everyone from browsers to art collectors.
In the winter months we have shorter hours, but if we are closed, you are welcome to ring Oriel on 01720 422900 or 423021 to arrange a viewing.
Tamarisk, a mother and daughter venture by Oriel Hicks and Erica Swain was set up in 2016. Oriel has been making and selling her own creative glass work for over 25 years from her studio at the Phoenix Craft Workshops on St. Mary’s, while Erica is the creative force behind many of our card and gift ranges.
Tamarisk exhibits a broad range of contemporary art, much of it by celebrated local artists such as Chris Smith, Sue Lewington and Imogen Bone.
Alongside this, we are proud to display work by local craftspeople and silversmiths.
We are open Monday to Saturday
10am - 5.30pm.
We would ask our customers to please wear a mask in the Gallery and to use the hand sanitiser provided. If there are six people inside, we would also ask if customers would please wait outside until there is more space.
We have worked to make the gallery as accessible as possible and have widened walkways where possible although we are somewhat limited by Scillonian architecture and planning.
We share a door with the Foredeck and there is a small step upon entry to the foyer and another small step as you enter the gallery. Staff are on hand to help and will also be happy to bring artwork to you.
We are fortunate to have large windows with much of our artists' work displayed and visible from outside the gallery. If you see something you like when the gallery is closed, please contact us for more information or help.
