Emily Mary Shaw

Emily trained at Loughborough University where she completed a foundation degree in Art and Design. She then went on to study Textiles at Manchester School of Art where she specialised in weave, graduating with a first class degree in 2014.

She is now based on the Isles of Scilly with her partner, who is a primary school teacher and has a workshop at Phoenix Craft Studios at Porthmellon on St Mary's. She says of her work, "I hand weave on a Louet David 8 shaft floor loom. I am constantly experimenting with different fibres, patterns and colours as subtle changes to any of these factors can make a huge difference to the cloth. Inspiration for my fabrics currently comes from the beautiful Scilly seas and landscapes. Drawing, collaging, carefully selecting the appropriate yarn as well as colour palette are essential in the design of my fabrics."
