Imogen Bone

Imogen Bone is a contemporary impressionist painter living and working in Cornwall. She spent ten years living on St Mary’s where she established herself as an artist following a degree in Illustration at Falmouth College of Art.

She works both en plein air and in her studio, often getting a feel for a place by visiting with her sketchpad first and creating an impression using simple lines and quick brushstrokes before returning to her studio to create a more considered reflection using acrylics.

Imogen has completed a Masters in Art and the Environment and regularly collaborates in community art projects such as Art for Good with Anthony Garratt where she featured in a Channel 4 documentary raising awareness and funds for coastal erosion.

A renowned artist in Cornwall, Imogen is also a tutor at Newlyn School of Art. Here she shares her considerable knowledge and skill around material, structure and composition of landscape in her short course, ‘Coast’.

Imogen still regularly visits Scilly and sketches familiar views in different lights, weathers and times of year. She finds the sea an eternal source of inspiration and is drawn back to it time and again, whether through rowing, swimming or coastal meanderings. The sea naturally features heavily in her work, whether through the opaque, turbulent greys of winter or the translucent, inviting turquoise blues of summer.
